The Emergency Preparedness Program involves the planning and training for disasters or emergencies that pose a threat to community public health. This program has developed a plan describing the Health Department's role for preparing and responding to natural and man-made disasters.

The Health Department works closely with area hospitals, first responders, government officials, and emergency management personnel in planning response efforts. The program concentrates its emergency response efforts on hurricane, weapons of mass destruction, bioterrorism, and mass casualty events.
