Immunization information

Immunizations 251-690-8889
Pertussis (whooping cough) is highly contagious, potentially fatal to any baby under 12 months and is on the rise. Researchers have found, that in up to 80% of pertussis cases, infants caught the disease from a family member. Watch the video here.

Alabama law requires children who attend Day Cares, Head Start programs, Public or Private Schools to have a current Immunization Certificate (Blue Card) prior to registering.

In addition to standard required and recommended vaccinations, there are new immunization requirements for the 2010-2011 school year that may affect your child if they are:

  • Attending day cares or Head Start programs: PCV- pneumococcal conjugate vaccine
  • Entering 6th grade: Tdap vaccination
  • Entering 9th grade: Varicella vaccination

With school quickly approaching, parents can get their childrens Back-to-School Immunizations by visiting a Mobile County Health Department clinic before the last-minute rush begins. All required or recommended vaccinations are free or low-cost based on eligibility.

What parents MUST bring when coming in for immunizations and/or to get a blue card:

  • Parent Photo ID
  • Child's Social Security Number
  • Child's Immunization/Shot History
  • Insurance Card

If your child is up-to-date on immunizations and only requires a new blue card, please bring the items mentioned above to the Immunization Clinic (251 N. Bayou Street) and allow 48 hours for processing and pick-up.
